urgencytobleed: (kneel and crawl to hell and back)

Loud Planes Fly Low is that rare breed of album - you know the type; you go in without any expectations but come out feeling altered, like you've just heard something you're never, ever going to forget. It doesn't happen often for me but when it does, it's such a spectacular, overwhelming sensation. Of course now I've gone and ruined the surprise by raising your expectations right from the start and I can't promise you'll feel the same way about the album as I do but go on, give it a chance, decide what you think for yourself and then come back and read the rest of this. If I can't convince you to do that, at least attempt to take the following with a grain of salt, as I am surely past the point of objectivity.

Sound won't hurt on its own. )

I honestly don't mean to keep abandoning this place. It just happens. But in an effort to keep things more active, I'm going to try really hard to post one song every day from the albums I've liked the most this year, since I haven't had a chance to talk about any new releases yet. Hopefully, I will be able to keep this promise, as it seems a pretty simple one to fulfill, seems being the operative word there - I'm still the biggest procrastinator on the planet. Anyway, that will start tomorrow. For now, have a concert review that, yes, I shamelessly copied and pasted from my personal blog. Whatever. It fits more here.

There's kids playing guns in the street and one's pointing his tree branch at me and so I put my hands up, I say enough is enough, if you walk away, I'll walk away, and he shot me dead. )

Also, before I go, there's a new Carissa's Wierd song, guys! Their first in over seven years! I guess they're planning on releasing a 7" and doing a few reunion shows but I'm not sure if their plans yet extend beyond that. Hopefully, they do because this song is beautiful and sounds just as good as their best stuff. You can hear it over on Soundcloud.

Gah, I completely forgot to post this yesterday! Now I feel all unreliable and untimely but what's new, right? Anyway, it's not as though the reveal is very exciting. It was probably pretty easy for you to forget out by process of elimination alone. But here it is regardless. Even if you've already guessed the album (or been spoiled for it by the cut text and/or tags), you can at least enjoy the review, since I haven't actually written a lot about it previously. And now that the end has been reached, I can actually focus on 2011 for a change!

All I want is the perfect love, though I know it's small, I want love for us all. )

Alright, now I must admit: I'm not sure how often I will be posting here in the future. Of course I still love the music but my heart really isn't in this blog anymore. That's how I feel right now but who knows, it might change in the future. But I'm also warning anyone who might still drop by regularly (despite my increasing irregularity in posting) that it might not. If you still want proof that I'm alive even if this blog dies, I also have a Dreamwidth where I post my sporadic attempts at fiction which maybe will interest someone or give you something to laugh at anyway. If you want to friend me there, go for it.

The only comments I've been getting lately are anonymous spammers so I had to disable anonymous commenting. I do get some really nice anonymous comments once in awhile but... if you want to post anything you'll have to register for Livejournal. Sorry.

Well, darling, I can't go but you may stay here with me. )

Yes, I am aware that one of these is not an official album release but you know what? I don't care. It's still just as good as anything else on here so it counts!

Now, somewhere time pursues us as we love in Technicolor. )

Alright, I've realized that if I don't start posting this I'll never actually get around to finishing it. I still have a few reviews to write in the upper half of the list but I figure if I put myself on a real deadline I'll be able to crank them out at the last minute. Besides, I'm writing about albums I've already written about once. It should be a no-brainer, right? Anyway, so, here we go, the first of five parts (because I'm going to be a jerk and withhold number one for its own separate entry, mwahaha - mostly because the review is three fucking paragraphs long) if anyone really still cares about my now slightly outdated opinions on last year's music. If you can believe it, I still had to do some last minute re-ordering earlier today. Yeah. But now that I'm posting it there shall be no more of that. Now let us commence with the dramatic reveal! (Though, honestly, if you follow this blog at all you will not be surprised by about 90% of these choices. There are only two albums I've not mentioned at all and just one or two others I've mentioned briefly. The rest I've pretty openly gushed over at some point in the past twelve months.)

You know you're the reason that I felt alive out here. )

Alright, so, about that 2010 list of mine. I've only got about half the reviews written at this point and at the moment all of my creative energy is being harnessed by other things so I'm not sure when I will have the rest ready. I know I could just copy and paste my first reviews, since I've already posted about most of them before, but even though it is illogical to write the same things in different words all over again, I can't help it. So you'll have to wait for that awhile longer. But here is something to hold you over until then. I've also mentioned a lot of these albums before but some of them are here for the first time so it's not entirely a waste of a post. Also, I can't really call this entire list honorable mentions because, well, some of the albums I don't like much as a whole but they happen to have a couple really amazing songs. So it's just a list of... everything I felt I needed to mention that isn't in the top twenty for whatever reason.

I'm begging with my fingers and it's starting to burn. )

Two weeks isn't bad, is it? Maybe once I get all this out of the way I'll be able to post about things when I actually mean to instead of months later.

Club 8 - The People's Record )

The Corin Tucker Band - 1,000 Years )

Nina Nastasia - Outlaster )

School of Seven Bells - Disconnect From Desire )

Stars - The Five Ghosts )

Villagers - Becoming a Jackal )

So... um, I haven't posted in a couple of months, have I? Sorry about that. It's not that there's been a lack of music to inspire me, it's just that I'm lazy and... yeah, mostly lazy but I've also been burned out on writing in general for awhile now. All kinds of writing apparently: music reviews, fiction, fucking around with no purpose but to entertain myself. Yep, it's all been pretty difficult to accomplish lately. But here I am, trying to amend that! By briefly convincing you to check out some albums from this year that I haven't gotten around to mentioning yet! There are quite a few because, as we have established, I am a lazy fuck so this will be split up into a couple entries. It's basically a mix of albums I adore, albums I really like and albums that aren't so great but have a few really good songs and, hey, sometimes it's fun to say bad things instead of good all the time, isn't it? So, yeah, have fun, discover new music, be merry. I will try to be more prompt regarding the next installment.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs )

Azure Ray - Drawing Down the Moon )

First Aid Kit - The Big Black and the Blue )

Jenny and Johnny - I'm Having Fun Now )

Lydia - Assailants )

The Narrative - The Narrative )

Ra Ra Riot - The Orchard )

And, truly, saving the best for last, even though this is more a review of two songs instead of an entire album because regarding these specific releases, that seems far too daunting a task to even comprehend for at least several months...

Sufjan Stevens - All Delighted People/The Age of Adz )
