Song of the Day!

The Brunettes - Small Town Crew

The Brunettes - Small Town Crew
I haven't gotten into most of their music as much as I was hoping I would yet, but maybe it's just going to take awhile to grow on me. This song, however, is one of them that I really love, maybe because it's quite different from a lot of their other stuff. It's pretty simple musically, but has a few brass and orchestral flourishes in the perfect places, accenting the beautiful melody. Heather Mansfield's voice is what really makes the song, though. It has a really dreamy quality to it, kind of in the vein of Camera Obscura and The Concretes. It really reminds me of someone else, too, but I haven't quite put my finger on that yet. Anyway, this is just a really pretty and strangely addictive track. There are no obvious "wow, I need to hear that again" moments, yet I'm always left wanting to listen to it once or twice more.
