Mandy Moore has been portrayed as somewhat of a third-rate Britney Spears since the beginning of her career and that description was probably well-deserved through her first few albums, but with 2003's Coverage, Mandy proved that she was ready to break out of the generic pop princess mold. Her energetic pop-folk takes on songs by artists such as Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Cat Stevens paved the way for a new Mandy, one who had finally grown up and wanted to do things her own way. And then she disappeared into her second career as an actress.

Here are a couple of my favorite tracks from the album, along with an alternate version of "All Good Things" which is more stripped-down and personal and an interesting (and much better) blues-rock take on Mandy's first hit, "Candy". (And the banter at the beginning about forgetting the lyrics and having to Google them is made even more amusing by the fact that she actually does forget some of them during the performance.)
