Sarah Slean has been making music for a decade now, but despite her overwhelming amount of talent there and in other areas, she still has yet to truly receive the recognition she deserves. She remains a virtual unknown beyond her native Canada, and even there, she hasn't garnered nearly enough attention yet. To any fan of hers, it's almost incomprehensible how so many people have yet to catch on to her smart, literate, and dramatic brand of pop. Unfortunately, with her fifth studio album, The Baroness, it looks like that barrier will not be broken through. It is neither her best effort or her most radio-friendly one. Despite any disappointments it presents and the fact that it probably will not grab her many new fans, though, The Baroness is still well worth the time. After all, a handful of brilliant songs almost always easily outweighs a handful of not-so-brilliant ones.
