Alright, I've realized that if I don't start posting this I'll never actually get around to finishing it. I still have a few reviews to write in the upper half of the list but I figure if I put myself on a real deadline I'll be able to crank them out at the last minute. Besides, I'm writing about albums I've already written about once. It should be a no-brainer, right? Anyway, so, here we go, the first of five parts (because I'm going to be a jerk and withhold number one for its own separate entry, mwahaha - mostly because the review is three fucking paragraphs long) if anyone really still cares about my now slightly outdated opinions on last year's music. If you can believe it, I still had to do some last minute re-ordering earlier today. Yeah. But now that I'm posting it there shall be no more of that. Now let us commence with the dramatic reveal! (Though, honestly, if you follow this blog at all you will not be surprised by about 90% of these choices. There are only two albums I've not mentioned at all and just one or two others I've mentioned briefly. The rest I've pretty openly gushed over at some point in the past twelve months.)

You know you're the reason that I felt alive out here. )

So, I wanted to make a Halloween mix, an idea that I first tried out on here awhile ago (almost three years ago, what the hell?!?) but wanted to expand to a more CD-filling running time. At first, I was only using songs that had scary/Halloween-y words in the titles but then I ran out of those and focused on songs with a creepy/haunting vibe to them musically and, in the end, both of those groups ended up being pretty equally represented. So it's not exactly strictly Halloween-based anymore but it fits the spirit of the season well anyway. Enjoy the music!

All hail the queen. Still, I've never seen a witch this mean. )

A few things. It was extremely hard for me to decide on these last five albums; honestly, I probably should have left it at fifteen because I've switched different ones out and re-arranged them so many times it's ridiculous. There was a lot of music I liked this year but, apparently, there wasn't a lot that truly wowed me because there's a massive difference in how passionately I feel about these lower five compared to the upper fifteen. I'm finally satisfied at the moment with the order I've decided on but, ugh, I'll probably look back on this in a few months' time and wonder what the hell I was thinking. Anyway, there I go dampening the mood already. I'll just get to the list now.

Here are a few random songs/artists I am loving at the moment. No *NSYNC this time, I promise. ;)

And also, because I'm feeling generous and because no one is really getting anything out of me keeping them to myself, here are links to some random things I have uploaded in my MediaFire folder - a few albums, some songs. They are all good, I promise, so download whatever you'd like! Remember to change xx to tt for the links to work.

So, in honor of last night's Oscars ceremony - which I surprisingly thought were decently interesting this year - here are a handful of songs that work well for the occasion.

First, a few that go hand-in-hand with some of the winners (all very deserving, in my opinion):

And here are a few that have a general actor/movie theme to them:

Enjoy! :)

Okay, here's the final post of 2007-related stuff. That is, until six months from now when I discover some album I didn't know anything about previously and it suddenly becomes my new favorite. And believe me, that's probably very likely to happen, knowing my track record. I actually still have a handful of albums on my "Need to listen to more!" playlist, but I have to let go of 2007 list-making at some point or I won't have time to listen to any 2008 releases. (And shockingly, those are starting to pile up as well already!) Anyway, here's the last set of songs. Enjoy!

Usually songs that are less than two minutes don't do much for me. They're either over before they really have time to develop or are that short for a reason (because they aren't really worth the time in the first place). So, when I'm truly impressed by one of these songs, it's a pretty big deal. It also speaks well to the artist - that they can leave such a large impact in such a small amount of time. With this in mind, I set out on the task of finding the very best songs under two minutes in my possession. I started out with well over 300 but after weeding out dozens of meaningless thirty-second interludes, concert banter, and instrumentals (since I don't have many, I'm saving them as a theme possibility for the future) I began the pain-staking task of combing through the rest to narrow down my very favorites. The list slowly dwindled down to 50, then to 30, 25, and finally to its final stage where I couldn't possibly lose any more, 20. So, here it is: my top twenty favorite songs that don't quite reach two minutes - short and sweet and completely perfect that way.

I was given the suggestion to gather songs with a sun and moon theme, so I decided to act on it and was surprised by how many songs I had that fit the bill. There were way too many originally for me to upload in a reasonable amount of time, so I cut it down to twelve for each category. A lot of these are among my very favorite songs, so enjoy.

Well, here's part four - a bit late, but I still got it in without missing a day! Again, it's a bit lacking in variety, but I can't help it if each artist has more than one amazing cover. And I'm definitely going beyond the original five parts because I've discovered/remembered way too many more not to post them. Part five tomorrow!

Song of the Day!

Shannon Wright - Louise

LYRICS )

This song is so terribly depressing. I love the way the somewhat whimsical and bright piano melody contrasts with the dark lyrics and Shannon's wounded vocals. Perfection.
