( LYRICS )
I'm a bit weird, I think, because all of my favorite Azure Ray songs are Orenda's but I hardly ever feel like listening to her solo work while I adore Maria's.... hmm. Anyway, today is all about Orenda. I can't believe I've never posted "We Are Mice" before and so I'm fixing that right now. I actually thought the song was terribly boring the first few times I heard it but then it suddenly clicked and now it's one of my favorites. You have to be in the right mood for it because it is very slow and bleak and sad-sounding, but I adore the lyrics (the whole second verse is perfect) and Orenda sounds fantastic as always; I love when she goes into that deep, sensual, throaty voice like on the "We'll do our best to blend in" line, it's so spine-tingling and beautiful. And, while I don't completely love her solo stuff, there are a few songs that I go back to a lot and "Bloodline" is one of them. I posted it awhile ago but the link has since expired and I've been really into it lately. Musically, it's very catchy and upbeat, but the lyrics are quite dark which I didn't realize until I saw the semi-creepy music video for it, which puts them into context a lot better. My favorite part is "Just let your body do the rest" where she utilizes that side of her voice I mentioned before. Basically, they're both really good; click the song titles to listen/download if you haven't already figured it out.
