Some random songs.

Here are a few songs I've been enjoying lately, until I can think of something more substantial to post. Enjoy!
They aren't really like any of the music I normally listen to, but I enjoy their sound. Yuki's voice is super cute, though not annoying-cute but more ethereal-cute, if that makes sense. I like "Goodbye" because her voice in the verses is a little deeper and more mature-sounding, which is a nice change of pace, because the really high airy vocals can get a bit tired after awhile. But as far as that side of her voice goes, I think "Strings" displays it very nicely; she doesn't have a lot of range but she knows how to make that work. And the music itself is really lush and big; you kind of get lost in it.
I downloaded an album of theirs completely on a whim without knowing anything about them, but I actually like this a lot. Their music is really pretty but also really intense. The vocals are extremely expressive and also pretty impressive technically; they kind of remind me of Damien Rice, for some reason, but if he could sing a lot better... and if he was a better songwriter, to be honest. Anyway, this is the first song I heard and still my favorite, I think, but I've only listened to the whole album once through.
I've been getting really into this band lately, mostly their later albums though; the first few are a bit too muffled and lo-fi sounding for me to really enjoy listening to, at least as of now. But Long Knives Drawn and Catastrophe Keeps Us Together both have a lot of really amazing songs. And I adore Caithlin's voice. It's capable of being really aggressive and loud, as "Long Knives" showcases, but it can also be really sweet at times, like on "Terrified". When she sings the line "I can almost feel your hand" in that one and her voice breaks at the end, it kills me, it's so beautiful and sad.
This song is fucking awesome. The way Corin kind of shout-sings some of the lines ("I'm so good at playing dead!") and then the crazy intense "Am I running, am I running, am I running out?" at the end. Badass. I had to listen to this about five times in a row when it came up on my mp3 player before going onto the next song.

Date: 2008-01-22 06:20 pm (UTC)A. Does Carrie sing the main vocal on "Leave You Behind"?
B. Does Corin just sing the chorus on "The Swimmer" and Carrie the verses, or is the whole thing Corin?
I think I know, but I'm not 100% sure.
