What were we after and why was it there?
Jun. 11th, 2008 03:12 pmI'm too lazy to work on any reviews at the moment, so here are some random songs I love right now instead. Actually, they're not random at all - they're all those boy/girl bands that I so adore. Someone stop me! I literally cannot listen to anything else anymore. It's like an illness or something, but one that I definitely don't mind having.
Since I posted about them a couple of weeks ago, I've decided that I actually enjoy Your Majesty a lot. It's nearly the complete opposite of their first album but I've found that after hearing it a few times, I actually like almost every song and it's very hard to decide which is my very favorite. Maybe "Husam Husam" or "Devil on My Side" which I've already posted (check the tag). Or maybe this one, if only for the vocal harmonies during the "I wear this crooked crown... raise the dead, oh-oh-oh" part of the second verse, because Adrienne just sounds perfect there. Whether or not it's my favorite, it's still very good.
I have posted quite a few of their songs, but I've never actually talked about them specifically, just random songs that happened to go with a theme I was doing. But they are (or were... yet another great band who broke up) awesome and deserve to be mentioned more. I actually haven't even made myself familiar with a good portion of their material yet, but I adore what I have been able to digest. This song is very catchy, in a kind of melancholy way, if you get what I mean. I liked it before but I heard it on shuffle the other day and thought, "Damn, that's a good song", and have been listening to it a lot since.
I'm not sure how much I like this band yet, but this song anyway is stellar. The chorus is amazing and then the overlapping alternating melodies at the end - I love that. Also, the girl in this band is named Shannon which, if you don't know, is my name so that automatically makes them cool in my book.
I know, I know, I've already posted about them a lot, but I keep realizing new songs that I love. This one, for example - it was actually one of my least favorites on The Needles, the Space for a very long time; my sister kept telling me how much she loved it and I couldn't understand the appeal, I thought it was boring. But I've been listening to them all the time lately and it's finally clicked and now I think it's beautiful. I love the lyrics and how naturally and slowly it builds up and, of course, the vocal harmonies. Though those kind of make me sad now that Michelle has left the band and won't be there to provide them anymore. But not sad enough to stop listening.
Seriously, if anyone knows any other bands like those and Lydia, 1997, Tilly and the Wall, Mates of State, Los Campesinos!, etc. that do the shared male/female vocals thing, please let me know because I'm addicted and I think I've exhausted all my knowledge.
